What it usually means
A bottle keeps something sealed: wine, medicine, perfume, a message, a genie. It protects its contents and hides them until someone opens it. Dreams about bottles usually concern containment: feelings held in, potential waiting to be released, and the risks and gifts of opening.
Holding in is the first theme. People speak of bottling up feelings. A sealed bottle in a dream can reflect emotions you have kept inside for a long time.
Messages are the second. A message in a bottle drifts across the sea, hoping to be found. Such a dream can reflect a wish to be heard, or words you have sent out without knowing if they will arrive.
Temptation is the third. Bottles hold alcohol and medicine. A bottle dream can reflect desire, indulgence or worry about dependence.
Potential is another meaning. Something powerful may wait inside a bottle. A bottle dream can point to talents or energies that are contained, waiting for the right moment.
Emptiness is a quieter theme. An empty bottle can reflect exhaustion — everything poured out, nothing left.
Fragility is a related idea. Glass breaks. A bottle dream can reflect a sense that what holds you together is delicate.
Preservation is a related theme. Bottles keep things from spoiling — jam, wine, medicine. A bottle dream can reflect a wish to keep a memory or feeling unchanged.
Worth saying plainly: if bottle dreams are about drinking and bring worry about your own habits, it may help to talk with someone you trust or a specialist.

When it keeps coming back
Recurring bottle dreams often appear in people who rarely express their feelings and have reached the limit of holding them in.
They also come when a person is waiting for an answer — to a letter, an application, a confession.
If you keep dreaming of bottles, notice whether you are sealing them or opening them. The direction shows whether you are containing or releasing.
Others dream of bottles when they are finally ready to say what they have kept to themselves.
Some people dream of finding messages in bottles in their own handwriting. Such dreams can reflect forgotten parts of themselves returning.
In Jungian terms
In the *Thousand and One Nights*, a poor fisherman pulls a brass jar from the sea, sealed with the seal of Solomon. When he opens it, smoke pours out and becomes a huge jinni, who, angry from centuries of imprisonment, threatens to kill him. The fisherman says he cannot believe such a giant ever fitted in so small a jar. The jinni goes back in to prove it — and the fisherman quickly seals it again.
Jungian readers see in the tale the power of what has been bottled up: when it is released, it can be overwhelming, and wit and care are needed to meet it.
A bottle dream may ask how ready you are for what is inside. Not every jar should stay sealed — but some need to be opened carefully.
