What it usually means
Fog does not remove anything. The road, the trees and the houses are all still there; you simply cannot see them. Dreams about fog usually concern this kind of not knowing: a situation you cannot see clearly, a decision without enough information, or feelings that are present but hard to name.
Confusion is the first theme. Walking through fog in a dream often reflects uncertainty in waking life. You know there is a way forward, but you cannot see where it leads.
Hidden things are the second. Fog conceals. A dream of shapes moving in the fog can point to facts, feelings or intentions that are not yet visible — in others or in yourself.
Waiting is the third. Fog lifts eventually. Some fog dreams carry patience: a sense that clarity will come if you do not force it.
Mood is another meaning. Fog dulls colour and sound. A foggy dream can reflect a low, muffled mood — tiredness, sadness, or the dullness that comes after a long period of stress.
Mystery is a quieter theme. Fog can be beautiful and strange as well as frightening. Dreams of soft, glowing fog can carry a sense of wonder, as if ordinary places have become magical for a while.
Softness is a related theme. Fog blurs sharp edges. A gentle fog dream can reflect a time when hard facts are being softened, perhaps because the dreamer is not yet ready to face them in full light.
Worth saying plainly: some people describe a foggy feeling in their thinking during illness, exhaustion or after medication. If fog dreams come with constant waking tiredness or confusion, it is worth speaking to a doctor.

When it keeps coming back
Recurring fog dreams often appear during long periods of uncertainty — waiting for decisions, recovering from loss, living with unanswered questions.
They also come to people who are avoiding a clear look at something, as if the fog were protecting them from seeing it too soon.
If you keep dreaming of fog, notice whether it moves, thins or thickens. The change often follows your own understanding.
Some people dream of fog lifting just before an important decision becomes obvious. The dream sees the clearing before the waking mind does.
In Jungian terms
In the legends of King Arthur, the island of Avalon is where Arthur is carried after his last battle, to be healed by the enchantress Morgan. In many retellings the island is hidden by mist, and only those who know the way, or who are called, can pass through it. Arthur is said to sleep there still, waiting for the time of his return.
Jungian readers see in the mists of Avalon an image of the boundary between ordinary awareness and the deeper psyche. Fog does not only block the way; it marks the place where another world begins.
A fog dream may stand at such a boundary. What lies behind the mist is not lost, only not yet reached.
