What it usually means
A market is noisy and colourful. People buy, sell, bargain, taste and talk. It is a place of abundance and choice, and also of temptation and judgement. Dreams about markets usually concern exchange: what you give and receive, how you judge value, and how you handle many options at once.
Choice is the first theme. Market stalls offer everything at once. A market dream can reflect a decision with many options, and the difficulty — or pleasure — of choosing.
Value is the second. Bargaining and paying ask what things are worth. A market dream can reflect questions about your own worth, or what you are willing to pay for something you want.
Exchange is the third. Markets are about give and take. Such dreams can reflect relationships, work deals or the balance of effort and reward.
Abundance is another meaning. A full market with fruit and spices can carry a sense of plenty and enjoyment of life.
Temptation is a quieter theme. Bright goods attract. A market dream can point to desires that are hard to resist, and whether they serve you.
Community is a related idea. Markets bring people together. Dreams of busy markets can reflect a wish for liveliness and contact after isolation.
Senses are a related theme. Markets are full of smells, colours and tastes. A vivid market dream can reflect a wish to feel more alive, more present in the body and in the moment.
Fairness is another meaning. Weighing, measuring and counting change are about trust. A dream of unfair scales or wrong change can reflect a sense of injustice in an exchange.
Worth saying plainly: weekly markets, bazaars on holidays and food shopping often appear in dreams directly.

When it keeps coming back
Recurring market dreams often appear during periods of decision — career choices, purchases, relationships — when many options compete.
They also come to people thinking about their value at work, negotiating salaries or prices.
If you keep dreaming of markets, notice whether you are buying, selling or simply wandering. Each role points to a different part of your situation.
Some people dream of markets from childhood. The smells and sounds often bring back a whole period of life.
Others dream of markets when they feel isolated, as if the mind is seeking crowds and conversation.
In Jungian terms
In Christina Rossetti's poem *Goblin Market* (1862), two sisters hear goblin merchants calling every evening, offering wonderful fruit. Laura buys and eats, and then pines away, unable to hear the goblins again or to taste anything else. Her sister Lizzie goes to the goblins, endures their attack without eating, and brings the juice home on her own skin. Laura tastes it from her, and is cured.
Jungian readers see in the poem a picture of desires that consume rather than nourish, and of healing that comes through love and a different kind of exchange.
A market dream may ask what you are buying. Some fruit feeds; some only makes you hungrier.
